Day on Georgian Bay

windyGeorgian Bay was calm with a warm southwest breeze, sunny sky and scattered clouds the morning of July 6, 2013 when we arrived at Meaford Harbour.

These were perfect conditions for the “Day on the Bay”, organized by the Reef Boat Club to raise funds for the Meaford Hospital Foundation.

For a $75 ticket, non-boaters got a 3 hour cruise on Georgian Bay on either a power boat or sailboat.

Boaters volunteered to take them aboard their boats for the cruise to experience and enjoy the boating lifestyle.

On returning to the marina, guests were served appetizers and beverages; then all enjoyed a delicious BBQ at the Reef Boat Club’s Club House where everyone shared the excitement of their day on Georgian Bay.

windy-group2From all the positive feedback, it will most likely become an annual event and be even bigger and better next year.

Most people only get to see the water from shore and can only imagine what it would be like to go for a sail, or cruise in a power boat.

This was a perfect opportunity for non-boaters to get out on the water and donate to a worthy cause at the same time.

Boaters volunteering to participate in this fund raiser were happy bbq-blue-moonto support the local hospital and had an opportunity to introduce others to boating, meet new friends and have another great day on the water.

Of course, Meaford Hospital wins because the donation will help the Hospital Foundation keep the hospital’s equipment current.

Thanks to the Reef Boat Club and members Terry and Liz Harris for organizing this “Win-win-win” Event.
